What about a Ruby version of this library ?

I you want it, please STAR this issue.

Please, also, let me know what you think about:
- if I should make a gem, or just distribute a .rb?
- the Ruby version I should support?
- if I use or not some gem dependencies?

I started working on this, I do not know yet if it will become a gem or not,
