webworkers: update implementation. #82

Fix a couple of bugs and make some of the error throwing more like anvil's background tasks

Merging so that @rhurlbatt can have a play with it. Changes are fairly minor (and only in typescript land). It's also been completely broken for a couple of weeks and no one's complained so I doubt anyone is relying on the code
