Load times of large collections - too long? #612

Steps to reproduce:

Add any large collection to the map, for this example I used 1.Argo and also tried the same thing with 2.IMOS SOOP Expandable Bathythermographs (XBT) Research Group - XBT delayed mode data

The with Argo I did zoom out fully after it had "successfully loaded" on initial addition.

What should happen:

Collections added and loaded successfully

What does happen:

  1. Argo seemed to load fine on initial addition but then when I zoomed out fully it took ages trying to load probably 2-3 min and then finally came up with the error triangle
  2. XBT just took about 3 min trying to load collection on map and then gave error triangle

*Could just be backend issue?

I have added timeouts to the nagios/layer checks, so that we get alerts for this issue.

Closing this for now, as cannot repeat. Hopefully we will get some nagios alerts if and when things are slow the next time.
