OPTION 5: Sap from maple trees is collected and boiled down to produce maple syrup. Collection occurs in the early spring, during “sugaring season”. In order for the sap to run, temperatures must be above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. As spring temperatures in New England are notoriously variable, so too is the sugaring yield. Climate change also affects the beginning of spring. Use the data file on gallons of sap collected and the weather data to predict the start date, end date, and yield for sugaring season.

Plan:

  1. Meet during TA hours to begin data wrangling - work with Weather and Sugar data files
  2. Finalize data wrangling and begin work on report: make a plan for a data graphic, and work on the written response.
  3. Decide on a "plan" for Smith to implement, answer questions (see Advanced requirements) and support plan with data and possibly graphic.
  4. Clean up file with comments and code folding.
  5. Final check over, and submit! :)
