Unincorporated US territories versus colonial territories #24

Are the differences between the handling unincorporated US territories versus past colonial territories intentional? For instance, places like Puerto Rico were labeled as part of the Spanish empire at times, but are not labeled as part of the US in more recent maps

Annotations in the infoboxes on https://historicborders.app/ are not stored in the data in this repositroy but are loaded dynamically from Wikipedia, to my knowledge everytime the page loads. To change the infobox content, you need to change the content of the Wikipedia page itself.
