Can you give an example of a project providing its files via Torrent? I do not think the ASF has a torrent server at its disposal.
Many, but just off the top of my head... https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/ https://neon.kde.org/download
You might be right about the ASF. Hmm, seems like mirror is out of the question and the CDN takes care of things. https://www.apache.org/dev/mirrors.html
As of the third quarter of 2021, the ASF stopped using its download mirror system. It is now using a global content distribution network (CDN). Read about the history of the Apache mirror system.
What would you like to happen?
It would be super awesome if peer-to-peer sharing of the Apache Hop binaries could be done. This would be especially useful to me now that I have moved out of country USA, needless to say. :-)
One easy way would be to publish a Magnet Link (and have at least one seeder). Not sure how other Apache projects do their Magnet Links and keep at least 1 seed going... perhaps it's something offered by Apache server somewhere? dunno, but maybe Hop maintainers could ask the Apache Projects help mailing list or something to find out.
A note on Magnet Links and how they differ from Torrent files themselves:
