Apparently the configuration is all stored in the $HOME/.config^1 dir, which should make things easier to automate. Also KDE is more customisable (w.r.t. theming), so there's more to play around with.
I can always switch back to GNOME if I don't like it.
Also, having the theme files in ~/.config means that I can switch between GNOME and KDE easily and keep my themes across both.
