Missing gold is not particularly important. Gold will fill up over time. It's not something you need from the start. People should not spend a lot of time or mental capacity on gold outputs. They should instead mark output as gold when the opportunity arises.
Keeping track of whether current output is better or worse than expected (last seen) output will eventually yield something that is gold worthy, but it may be quite different from what you say is gold from the onset.
But an option to highlight outputs that have gold but expected != gold is a good idea.
