I'm not sure of the various RPG Maker preferences for file priorities. In the RGSS scripts, filenames are provided without an extension, and the engine looks for a matching file with a supported extension.
If someone can do some research to determine each maker's priority preference for file extensions, I'd be happy to make OpenGame.exe mirror it perfectly.
An honorary mention - the makers do support some undocumented formats. If someone happens to know more about these, I can see what can be done to support them as well.
