appdotnet / terms-of-service

The App.net terms of service documents live here. To facilitate transparent discussion, we encourage users to create issues and/or submit pull requests with your feedback. Our general process is to incorporate user feedback on a roughly quarterly basis based on review with our legal team, but in the early stages this may occur significantly more often.

The word "modify" in Your Content & Conduct #14

Open pameladavisbean opened 12 years ago

In this section:

"When you post, link or otherwise make available content to the Service, you grant us the right and license to use, reproduce, modify, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute your content on or through the Service."

The word "modify" seems awfully broad. I know you don't intend to modify the words in anyone's post, so I wonder if you want to make it more specific about the limits, what you won't modify.

Perhaps "reformat" would suffice for App.net's purposes. Alternately, they could include a clause explicitly saying that App.net may not make editorial changes to the content.

Always best to be as specific as possible if you are protecting users rights. The vagaries of the ad-supported networks are there to protect their businesses. I am expecting App.net to be different.
