Registration and sign on #12

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Register button in upper right does not open. I used About link on bottom
of page, then Sign up for an Account (Typos on Terms of Use and on home
page. You need a good QA!) I got an error message that my email address at
SF State is not valid. It is! Used alternative email address, which worked,
but now login is bad. Sign up did not have me create a password. Again, I
had to go back to About, and Sign up, then click on the Log In tab.
Password did not work since one was not created. Instructions did not tell
user that a temporary password or link would be emailed to them (see Issue
1). Finally, I got email. Went to URL. Error message. Timed out, request
new password.

New Error Message You have tried to use a one-time login link which has
either been used or is no longer valid. Please request a new one using the
form below.

So, cutting and pasting the URL into a new browser window does not work.
Click on the link, then it takes you to page to set up or change PW.

Finally in.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
This is where I would think that the site was not worth joining. Too much
of a hassle to even Register. I can live without it, thanks. Horrible user
experience! But since I'm doing this for a class, I'll persevere. Arrgh

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version beta - OS and browser unknown

At this point I also thought it might be a little more efficient to let users
create
their own password as opposed to generating one for them and then giving them
access
to change it in their account section

Upon clicking on the register link nothing happened. I tried several times and
I was
never redirected. The next day I tried to do the same, but this time I used a
Mac and
it worked!

Registering was OK, but when I received my password, it didn't want to work. I
tried
it a bunch of times, and had to request a new one. When I requested a new one,
it
sent me an email with a link in it. This link took me to another page, where I
was
able to sign in. OK, we got in.

4- sign on / log in sync beta.channels.ourmedia.org and beta.ourmedia.org are
two
different sites, need sign-on synced (or when you try to make a channel after
logging
in, you get "You are not authorized to access this page."

7- password security level acceptability could be clarified think it's super
cool
that the site gives on-the-fly feedback about how secure your password is, but
it
isn't clear that you can choose a less-secure password - feels like you have to
keep
changing it until it's "secure enough"

9- simplified registration process perhaps registration (sign up) and profile
creation could be separated? maybe an "I'll set up my profile later" option, so
you
can quickly get signed in and start uploading media or playing with channels.
some
people don't want to add in all that detail for their profile until they're sure
they'll be returning and using the site. it's not clear that it's optional, or
what
will happen if you don't fill it in right away ...

Upon registering, was directed to another user's portfolio (spmber).

I remember seeing her being the other online user. Was this a bug?

I am using the latest version of Firefox of this analysis. I also have Internet
Explorer 6 on my computer and looked at the sight with that browser too. On
IE6, the
whole layout of the site glitches and is not properly put together. The
Ourmedia logo
also glitches with a grey background. The registration button also doesn’t
work in
IE6, meaning people with that browser won’t be able to register.

Aside from issues with IE, is there a defect with the registration process?

this is actually a mix of issues that have been addressed elsewhere
