What are specific use cases for Ourmedia? Can we use this with channels? How
does use of Kaltura uploader
relate to work EZ has done recently?

More info: playlist feature requires separate jquery_update module. Setup
requires Kaltura api key, cron setup
plus cross-domain file for flash. Kaltura uses swfobject (we do too).

Unscientific first impression is....WOW!! It has several of the features I
think are
pretty key -

1) It provides a very intuitive way to allow user to choose between uploading
media
(video, audio, and photos) from their computer, recording from a webcam, or
importing
videos from external sources such as YouTube, MySpace, Flickr, Ccmixter, etc.
They
also provide a wizard that lets developers add their own media provider (it
looks
like Archive.org is already supported).

zard_.28CW.29

2) Collaborative editing and remixing of content -
http://corp.kaltura.com/technology/video_editor

3) Syndication and distribution features built in -
http://corp.kaltura.com/technology/syndication

There also seems to a lot of possibilities if Ourmedia could hook into their
partner
network -
http://corp.kaltura.com/partners/partners
http://corp.kaltura.com/partners/network

One question is if/how Kaltura provides a way to 'push' media out to other
video,
audio, and photo sharing sites including the Internet Archive. This is
something I
brought up in this Drupal thread - http://groups.drupal.org/node/17535

There also are a lot of unknowns regarding the costs/benefits of some of their
premium services - http://corp.kaltura.com/solutions/overview

On a gut level, I think there could be some huge value from leveraging the
Drupal
Dojo as a platform to openly brainstorm and collaborate on a solution that would
benefit Drupal, Kaltura, and Ourmedia. I'm already setting the table....

Couple other bits -

I filed an issue regarding their demo not working in safari
(http://drupal.org/node/350727)

Also added some screenshots/additional notes here -
http://sites.google.com/site/ourmediaredesign/content/media

The fact that you can easily add media (upload and/or embed) into any content
type
opens up all sorts of possibilities - http://drupal.kaltura.org/node/85

This conversation going with some of the Kaltura and other leaders in the Drupal
space (http://groups.drupal.org/node/17535) is again probably a good indicator
of the
benefits/cost savings of going this route. It's a new module - a lot of
interest -
and developers who would love the opportunity to wrap their service into the
legendary Ourmedia!

Pretty funny - I was wondering what those strange links were in the screenshots
referenced here - http://drupal.org/node/350727

As you probably noticed, Dave also filed an issue
(http://drupal.org/node/350942) and
they've already made some adjustments. I think this is a good indicator of how
they'll work with the Drupal community and sites that use Drupal that share a
complimentary ideal and vision.

This document contains some more info on Kaltura and potential ways we could
leverage
their module and network.
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg9292rd_291dzkqvjdf

Even if we don't utilize their uploader/CDN, there seems to a wide range of
benefits
in terms of publishing, distributing, syndicating, filtering, and displaying
rich
media. Additionally, there may be benefits/cost savings in collaborating with
Kaltura
and/or others in Drupal on features such as uploading to multiple sites.

Please share your thoughts, opinions, suggestions on what else we should be
evaluating.

FWIW, It looks like Lullabot (who knows a little bit about blending tech,
content,
and marketing) is using Kaltura - http://www.doitwithdrupal.com/free-videos

Kaltura has also served a lot of inspiration/room for collaboration in the
ongoing
Drupal media sprint. With Drupalcon as a podium for many new releases and
announcements, there would be substantial cost savings and benefits if Ourmedia
could
enter the discussion and/or collaboration -

Marked as wontfix until we have a chance to review them, so that new issues
are shown clearly.
