Currently the user signup/profile is geared towards the role of 'producer'.
This creates redundancies and limits the ability to discover.
YouTube provides a good template for various account types:
Producer - Allows customized "Portfolio Info" to be displayed on your
Profile page, describing yourself, your influences and your style.
Musician - for bands, singers, songwriters, labels and others involved in
making music and music videos. Allows custom logo, genre and tour date
information, and CD purchase links on your Profile page.
Comedian - for people who do stand up, parody, satire or sketch comedy.
Allows custom logo, style and show date information, and CD purchase links
on your Profile page.
Guru accounts are for people who are experts in... something! If you're a
gourmet chef, successful investor, or creative clothing designer, you might
want to look into getting a Guru account. Advantages include being able to
create a custom logo, genre, and links to your other websites from your
Profile.
Reporter - for journalists -- both citizens and professionals -- informing
others about the news and events in their local communities and around the
world.
Nonprofit - powerful way to show your organization's impact and needs, and
with a designated "Nonprofit" channel on YouTube, you can deliver your
message to the world's largest online video community.
I suggest we allow for custom profiles to better accommodate the variety of
users, producers, and organizations who use our site.
