All AOVs get written to the same image file (overwriting each others)? #227

One can save several AOV at the same time when each AOV has an individual file name assigned. (see screenshot, the UV-AOV is exported to aov1.exr and the direct diffuse AOV is exported to aov.exr) capture

Maybe by default the filename should be automatically inferred from the AOV name? So that it works out of the box, without having to manually assign unique filenames to all AOVs.

Is this about multiple AOVs of the same type? If it's about different types then I think I know what's wrong - when you add several elements to list, one after another and choose type for each element, name of the element doesn't change unless you close and open render setup window. When you close and reopen it then you get each element with its own name. If type is the same then yes, you need to manually change the file.

Is what you're describing @usakhelo a bug?

usakhelo commented 5 years ago

I think it's normal max's behavior. I tried vray's MaterialSelect, chose the material and it only updated element's name after re-opening the render dialog.

One other thing: Filenames and file type for the render elements (AOV) are automatically assigned when one specifies an output filename for the main render image in the Render Output rollout of the Common panel (see screenshot). Then one does not need to type filenames for each AOV. And you don't need to close and reopen the render settings window, just click on the AOV name again and it updates the name with the specific AOV ending. capture

That is also true @Mango-3 .
