[QUESTION] Obok for german vendors #1966

My Environment

Calibre: 5.33.2

Kindle: no longer

DeDRM: 10.0.2

MacOS: '11.3.1'

Hello,

till recently I used Amazon to buy ebooks in english and german and used the tools to get them into Calibre. With the new MacOS-version the necessary old Kindle-version doesn't work any longer - so bye, bye Amazon. (And not only because the tools do not work with the newer Kindle-versions - Amazon has no version for the new MacOS, so Mac-users can't even read Amazon-ebooks on an app).

So I switched to Kobo.com, which gives a good range of english titles and the Obok-plugin works well.

But: Though the normal german vendors (like Thalia.de or bol.de) use the same encryption as Kodo, the plugin cannot locate the files bought there (not being stored by the Kobo desktop). Kobo desktop can be connected to an bol.com-account - but not to a bol.de-account, though bol.de is a subsidiary of bol.com using the same software.

So: Is there any way to transfer ebooks from german vendors into the Kobo-desktop - or to redirect the Obok-plugin to the Thalia- or bol.de-desktop?

Or generally is there any way to decrypt ebooks from german vendors?

Thalia uses Kobo encryption? Looking at both the thalia.de and bol.de webpages they only seem to mention needing an AdobeID to read DRMed books, so I would imagine you could somehow download an ACSM file from them which can be turned into a normal EPUB that can be DeDRM'd. Is that not the case? You would then use the normal DeDRM plugin, not the Obok one.

Also, if you're using version 10.0.2 of the DeDRM plugin (which is the forked version by noDRM) this seems to be the wrong issue tracker.

Also, you can still remove DRM from Amazon books on the latest MacOS. See Method 2 here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283371

Thalia uses Kobo encryption? Perhaps not exactly ;-) Seems I jumped to conclusions too early - bol.com and bol.de are completely different companies (now).

which can be turned into a normal EPUB that can be DeDRM'd. Worked perfectly. Seems as I always used Amazon with its complications I forgot about the normal simple way.

Also, if you're using version 10.0.2 of the DeDRM plugin (which is the forked version by noDRM) this seems to be the wrong issue tracker. Seems logical. I always saw it as one project, as they have been packaged and delivered together by the apprentices. Plus I couldn't find forums for OBOK.

Many thanks for your help!

I already found a 1.31 version which seems to run on the Mac (but crashes very soon). But I still did not yet do all the manipulations necessary via chmod etc. Will try that with some more time at hand to have a "plan B" ready. For the moment Amazon is annoying me so much I will try to use Kobo/Thalia instead ;-)

Completely understand. I mainly buy from Kobo myself.
