Confused & Help with DRM in Calibre #250

Closed ghost closed 7 years ago

ghost commented 7 years ago

Hello, So I just installed DeDRM 6.5.3, I installed Python 2.7 from activestate, but not pycrypto because i couldn't get it install (couldn't find the directory, saying it wasn't working since it wasn't 2.6 or whatever). I put the pluggin into calibre & when i tried to use it, it didn't work. Can anyone offer advice/instructions? THANKS! Here's the log:

Lots of help in the Read Me files, the help dialogues, and in the FAQs. To start figuring out what's wrong, we need an import log: https://github.com/apprenticeharper/DeDRM_tools/blob/master/FAQs.md#i-cannot-solve-my-problem-with-the-dedrm-plugin-and-now-i-need-to-post-a-log-how-do-i-do-that

You don't actually need to worry about Python or Pycrypto when using the calibre plugin. (You were probably looking at the info for the stand-alone Windows app.) For some reason, it was unable to retrieve your key. You had Adobe Digital Editions authorized with your Adobe ID before opening the .acsm file? One thing to try is going into the Adobe DRM section of the plugin customization and clicking the green plus sign. In the past, I've seen the tools have trouble automatically getting the key if the first thing you try is a PDF (instead of an epub.)

I answered over at the blog, but I'll repeat it here:

Was this downloaded via Adobe Digital Editions on the same machine and user as calibre with DeDRM? Is ADE authorized with your Adobe ID?

Try using 64-bit calibre if possible.

Murari1008 commented 4 years ago

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. ADE authorized with computer not any ID and calibre is not authorised with any ID. I tried many softwares like Dr. PDF, Epubor but didn't able to remove DRM. Tomorrow I'll try again with x64 calibre.

Adobe Digital Editions needs to be authorized with an Adobe ID before opening the acsm file. I don't know if you will be able to remove the DRM.

There're an option in left side bottom available in ADE to authorize computer without any adobe ID ADE

ElleKayEm commented 4 years ago

You won't be able to remove the DRM if you don't authorize with an Adobe ID. DeDRM needs the key created from the Adobe ID to unlock the book.

I've tried with adobe ID but getting the same error.

ElleKayEm commented 4 years ago

You've authorized ADE with an Adobe ID, opened the ACSM file, and downloaded a new copy of the PDF? You could read that copy in ADE? And you tried adding the new copy to calibre?

Yes. I tried every possibilities, checking on different systems but getting the same EBX_HANDLER error.

ElleKayEm commented 4 years ago

Okay. No idea if this will work. I think you may be out of luck with this particular book. But here is something to try:

  1. De-authorize and uninstall Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Go to https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/activation-errors-adobe-digital-editions.html and follow the instructions under "TROUBLESHOOTING REAUTHORIZATION AND DEAUTHORIZATION ISSUES ON WINDOWS" for deleting the registry key. As it says there, be very careful when editing the Windows registry.
  3. Install Adobe Digital Editions version 2.0.1 and authorize it with your Adobe ID. (Available here: https://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html)
  4. Download a fresh copy of the ACSM file, open it in ADE, and make sure you can read it.
  5. Add the new copy of the PDF into 64-bit calibre with DeDRM.

If you follow this exactly and it doesn't work, then I'm unaware of any other way to remove the DRM.

Hi, Not able to download books with ADE 2.0.1. ADE 3.0 is working but again getting the same error. Syntax Error: Couldn't find the 'EBX_HANDLER' security handler

ElleKayEm commented 4 years ago

If you can't open it with ADE 2.0.1, then DeDRM definitely can't remove the DRM.

Okay. Only ADE 3.0 and 4.5 is working.

Try using 64-bit calibre.

For those seeking help, this may help:

  1. Download ADE 2.0.1 (wont work with 4.X.X )
  2. De-authorize existing accounts (Ctrl+Shift+D in ADE), re-open ADE and re-authorize ( Else I got `Error! Check Activation when adding book to ADE)
  3. Download Calibre 4.23 here (wont work with 5.X)
  4. Download and install alf DRM removal plugin in calibre from here
  5. Locate PDF or EPUB file in file explorer from ADE and add to calibre.
  6. Right click file and convert individually.

Here's the correct link for DeDRM 6.8 in step 4: https://github.com/apprenticeharper/DeDRM_tools/releases/tag/v6.8.0

miqueasgamero commented 1 year ago

As far as I can tell, it is working with Calibre 6.25 and DeDRM version 10.0.3. You gotta have Adobe Digital Editions with your Adobe ID authorized on your Windows PC.

ElleKayEm commented 1 year ago

@miqueasgamero If you're referring to hardened Adobe DRM, yes, noDRM's DeDRM 10.0.3 can handle it.
