In Catalina only 64 bit programs are supported. Aptana studio is a 32 bit program... Hence the error. It would be awsome if this could be fixed.
Agree!
Looking at the my Mac System Report (Apple -> About This Mac -> System Report), the latest version of Aptana Studio 3 IS 64 bit. Note the "Last Modified" date is the same for the download of release 3.7.2.201807301111 on Jul 30, 2018. Reading the output from @gandarez, the problem looks more like Java than Aptana.
?? Does this mean that Aptana will work with Java 8?
Does this mean that Aptana will work with Java 8?
In a word, yes.
But apparently it does NOT work with "java.version=12.0.1" that @gandarez was trying to use.
I removed all from Library/Java/= then installed the latest and greatest jdk 8 (_241 at time of writing).
After starting up, turn off (uncheck) "Automatically find new updates and notify me" in "Preferences -> Install/Update" because the "Server Currently Unavailable" message always appears now when displaying the "Start Page".
I upgraded my java to version 1.8 and it works. I did need to install the latest aptana version because the version I had installed did not work.
Thanks to OC-Carl
I had the same error, but it was solved differently on my machine, so I wanted to leave instructions here just in case this helps someone.
I opened up the Terminal app.
I typed in: cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines
I typed in: ls
to see the contents of the directory
I saw that there were two other versions of jdk that might have been getting in the way, so I used: sudo rm -rf jdk-##.#.#.jdk
to get rid of them, where # represents the digits of those versions.
This caused no problems to my machine because I had several versions of jdk 1.8 for my system to use if it needed jdk for something.
After this, Aptana Studio started without a problem. I created a simple hello world program to test it and it worked without a problem.
