Good news for all of us, we can finally get rid of this dead extension and use 
Firefox in 64-bit mode!
There is finally a working and well-done extension to show PDF files inside 
Firefox, and this one is made by Mozilla Labs. See this page to read about it

It actually works for me with Firefox 11.0b3 in 64 bit mode on a Mac running OS 
X Lion 10.7.3, but it should work with all versions of Firefox.

pdf.js is still somewhat half-baked - it doesn't work well enough to rely on in 
a work setting, unfortunately.

It's almost two months now that I am using pdf.js and never had a problem.
Moreover, I see that it is constantly updated.
