object types backend api calls + rspec tests.

Ben, I have no idea why git says I want to "merge 51 commits into v3-refactor from object_types"??? Most of those commits are your commits into the v3-refactor branch, and I merged v3-refactor into object_types before the PR.

Plus if you look at the diff between the two there are only the 10 files I changed / added for this PR.
