multi panel figure aligment / zoom behavior #511

Description

Two panel figures are currently shown next to each other, horizontally stacked, wit the left panel left aligned with the left text border but the right panel exceeding the the text width. This is unaesthetic but fine. But when zooming into the page the right panel is cut off ( with no horizontal scrollbar!) while there is still free empty margin on the left. Consider letting panels float.
