When chromecast is in picture frame mode switching channels on my TV is blocked #460

When chromecast is in picture frame or screen saver mode it keeps me
from switching channels on my TV. Pressing menu or channel select on the remote 
does nothing.

My TV: Toshiba 40L544

Current Workaround: Switch off HDMI-CEC in the TV configuration menu

What do you expect to happen when you change TV channels on remote? When you 
see the backdrop (i.e. the picture frame you are referring to) on your TV, it 
means your input is set to the HDMI input for Chromecast. If you change your TV 
channels, you are not changing the input. If you expect changing channel should 
switch your input to your TV input, then you need talk to the manufacturer of 
your TV since remote control messages are received by your TV (or your cable 
box if you have one) and they should change the HDMI if you expect that to 
happen. I haven't seen any TV doing that though.

Sorry - I just want to switch the input source to TV input from SAT or other 
HDMI input and it is not possible.

Is there a better place to submit a chromecast issue when it is not related to 
the sdk ?

How are you trying to change the input? In your original issue, you stated that 
you were changing channels. Are you just changing channels or are you selecting 
the input on your remote control?

Sorry I described it wrong in my first post, i just tried to switch the
input source on the remote control. Also other keys on the remote control
do not work e.g. I can't open the TV menu screen. It looks like most of the
remote control keys are blocked.
Should it be possible to use the remote control when another device is
controlling the TV via CEC ?

Yes, you should able to use remote control. For example, on my Samsung TV, I 
bring up chromecast and using CEC, it switches to the appropriate HDMI input 
that my chromecast os connected to. However, I can grab my Samsung remote 
control and press the Input Source to choose another input. The IR commands 
that the physical remote control sends are intercepted by your TV and not by 
Chromecast, and it is your TV that should provide the appropriate overlay to 
allow you change the HDMI input. I suggest you contact the Toshiba support.

We would like to further investigate this issue so it would be great if you 
could provide some help with collecting information on this. We would need two 
sets of logs from your device. To send us logs from your chromecast device, you 
need to follow the steps outlined in this help page: 
https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3187017?hl=en  
When you are sending a feedback, you can enter a keyword in the UI that helps 
us find the log.

We would need two feedbacks:
(1) Just reboot your chromecast. After it is up, send one feedback, and enter 
the keyword "toshiba-1"

(2) A second feedback: use chromecast for whatever you would like. Then try to 
change the input using the remote which should fail (based on the issue that 
you have reported). After doing that, send us the second feedback with keyword 
"toshiba-2".

When you have done these, please enter a comment here so we can go and grab the 
logs that you sent us; we may be able to see why your TV is not happy at that 
point but unless we have the logs, we don't know if we can figure that out or 
not.
