Just some general cleanup of the README file and minor tweaks.

Removed link to Simple Contact in the first paragraph because the project appears to have disappeared. Link remains in the Acknowledgements.
Added Russian translation.
Removed version 1.0.6 notice because it is no longer applicable.

My README edits ended up in pull request #24 because I branched incorrectly. Closing this one.
