IBASA: Peru project initial discussion ticket with to do items #2671

Alyssa Bolster asks to use Kiosk for the exploratory season of her dissertation work in summer 2024, hoping to have a more complete setup with some interesting customization by us by the time she gets to her actual excavations (fall 2025). She and @lbestock met on Friday 26 IV 24 to discuss. There are several interesting elements of the project for us, including that some of Kiosk's capabilities are totally necessary - she digs in caves.

Her eventual excavations will need some work thinking about bio archaeology and she does have excel files of how she records that will help. She's not dealing with individual articulated burials for the most part, mostly contexts of tons of comingled bones. But sometimes some articulated parts within that, and she is often digging in the dark pretty quickly and needs to be able to bring the context data and the eventual lab reading of the bones together (something she says is itself quite rare in bioarch). She'll have interesting queries, for instance she already knows she wants to get relative percentages of trephinned skulls in a cave vs in the surface layers outside it.

This summer (late June leaving) she will be visiting a number of sites to decide where she will apply for a permit. She has a Peruvian codirector who will do ceramics. Currently she wants to be able to name sites and use site notes so that all her observations at this stage are present and whichever site she ends up working at will be there and ready to go. She only expects to use one iPad this summer, but we discussed going out with a proper VM setup to insure against data loss and get used to part of the system.

@lbestock When you ask Robert for server spaces, don't ask for the -test variant anymore. I have dropped this. Get's unwieldy,

it would be nice to find out about the ceramicist and his workflow.

We have an acronym! IBASA - Investigaciones BioArqueologicas en la Selva Alta

server space is ready for us

And there is your Kiosk: https://ibasa.arch-kiosk.brown.edu

35 minutes!

Amazing! The header is a little crowded, however. image

urapadmin commented 6 months ago

sure, that's customization. I also think I am ready for a new colour or something to tell things apart.

Does Investigationes not have any special characters?

lbestock commented 6 months ago

At least, Alyssa didn't give me any when she first told me. Time to get her on github, too. I've asked for her initials so we can get her into her own Kiosk, and for a meeting so we can walk through stuff.
