The newm-atha package on the archcraft repo is compiled with Python 3.11.8, so updating to python 3.12 breaks it and it won't start. Another issue is that building newm-atha-git from the AUR will not work since it's using wlroots v0.16 which doesn't compile with recently updated GCC-14.
I don't know if this would be a good time to update pkgs on the archcraft repo
or at least the ones that are affecting this issue, which would be
newm-atha-git
python-imageio
python-dasbus
Or maybe wait for an update from newm-atha?
Anyways, for now I personally installed GCC-13 and used it to compile newm-atha-git from the AUR, and also replaced the other two python packages, and got newm working again.
