On News, when posting a comment, sometimes this error message appears in the browser:
Dead link: users don't match
This happens when
A web browser navigates to a story.
From the story page, the web browser presses the login button, and logs in.
After logging in, the web browser may navigate back to a cached version of the story page.
When attempting to post a reply from that cached story page, the above error appears.
HackerNews deals with this differently: Instead of just displaying an error message, you get a resubmission form (with the previously entered reply - but not yet posted), with the following message above:
Please confirm that this is your comment by submitting it one more time. This is a security measure. It usually happens when you log in after the original page was loaded.
(This happens often in Links2 but it also caches quite aggressively.)
