Line managing reports in different teams is more challenging than managing reports in the same team. Would it be possible for Senior Devs to be given line management responsibilities for people within their own teams?
This has been asked before in a different context, and I suspect our answer is still "no" because it couldn't be made to work in our matrix-managed cross-functional teams approach.
Proposed action:
Acknowledge that it will be more difficult to line manage people outside your team, however this is exactly the same difficulty faced by the Principals, by Sean, and in fact all line managers in other NHSUK professions
