The present situation has arisen because in the past we permitted some band 7 developers to have line management responsibility as a development opportunity.
As far as I am aware there is no requirement for band 7 staff to have line management responsibility.
Proposed action:
I have no problem with band 7's line managing and the earlier, with support, we expose people to this the more experience they will have. In comparison a band 7 BNOD person or a ward sister line manages a large number of staff.
The Responsibility Matrix only shows line management as a responsibility for band 8a and above. Will band 7 developers be able to take on line management responsibilities? Will any band 7 developers already having line management responsibilities be able to continue in that role? If yes to either of the above, what complications would that create?
