When a port is selected a new editor window containing the correct firmware Updater sketch is opened, so the user can easily flash it . The right serial port is selected too (not the right board ATM, we probably should merge https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/commit/5d9146e57b420dfc9d2c079d8bad8e6a9a9da6b7 first).
