Solving PDEs is hella hard \footnote{Clay, etc,etc $1M, etc, etc}, but its easy to check if a given function is a solution of a given PDE.
This generalizes the chapter beyond the wave equation, and fits better with the history of exam problems in 253 (and probably 200).
2.b. A couple example: happy to provide!
I suggest the material on solving the wave equation becomes a new 2.8.1, called "solving the advection and wave equations". This would allow instructors to specify what is examinable here or not.
Move the current 2.8.1 (derivation of the wave equation) to 2.8.2.
And would you consider not marking the whole chapter as optional? Suggest leaving the "2.8.2 nee 2.8.1 derivation of the wave equation" as optional however.
I would consider doing some of this if you'd accept a PR for it?
