Refresh Button icon not spinning / spinner.gif never seen while loading #2

Ideally, I would like refresh button to spin while it is pulling down more links. Also, by the time spinner.gif is loaded, the first picture is ready, so it is replaced.

Already adding the "fa-spin" class to the button, and you can see it spinning while stepping through it. It may have something to do with the $.ajax method having 'async' set to false

It does, but it loads too quickly to be seen. When more subreddits are involved, it will no doubt be a part of the animation.
