As I've referenced in the analog preservation/conservation thread, there is no protection of any kind for current display items. All paper materials have suffered at some degree from light exposure, temperature fluctuations, exposure to cigarette smoke, abrasions, ripping/tearing, cleaning solvents, and adhesives.
