I think I'm the weak phone/laptop poster boy. Not sure the best way, but here are more thoughts.

Predetermined device list based on user agent and some webgl based chip detection
The tricky part about that is webgl fingerprint prevention might stop some of these methods

Client capability/resource availability discovery on the Web might be a losing battle against security and privacy considerations. Maybe we just provide a place where the user can tell us?

https://pmndrs.github.io/detect-gpu/ returns 90fps for iPhone SE, but rendering most scanned models crashes XR Browser. :-(
