Support for SONOFF Smart Power Meter Switch | POW Elite #15856

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Is it possible to use Tasmota on the new SONOFF POW Elite? I found some Pictures here. It´s based on an ESP32 and the power measuring is done with a CSE7759B (same as used in SONOFF POW R2). But what´s about the LCD driver?

The device is not broken, when i restore the stock fw of sonoff it works fine..

Uhm, you mean after it boots up right? The problem is, after flash it’s not responding. No WiFi nothing, just that faint blue light I showed on the foto above.

So the finetuning is not possible. Strange no?

There isn't enough power from a USB adaptor to fully power the device. You can do some of the config over serial

I did put aditional power source on the serial flasher 3,3 volt pins, and flashing was succesvol. Is it stil possible that i flash it with power shortage?

I'd recommend to disconnect the serial flasher, and power the device via mains. Then you should expect to see an AP popping up. It is not rare that devices cannot get Wifi running without mains power.

O i’m sorry I realize now that I where not clear enough en didnt fully understand what you ment. I did disconect the flasher en Connect the mains

that is when I get only that faint greenisch light nothing more. No powerled, no wifiled no display nothing just the autoled of the picture I send

You should expect nothing more on the device itself, until you configure it. Do look for the AP to connect to.

I'd like to come back to the GPIO26-on-forth-PIN-hack for the THR320D investigated by @Longlife4ever announced in https://github.com/arendst/Tasmota/issues/15856#issuecomment-1239127540 . I have two and a half presumably basic questions:

I'd like to hear from succesful operations. And even more from unsuccessful to learn from it.

Hello. I have a THR320d. With the Tasmota32.bin firmware everything works great, the temperature and humidity settings look reasonable. Is it possible to implement a thermostat function on this firmware? I think this can be done with help Berry Scripting, but I don’t understand how((

P.S. I know about the Generic thermostat in Home Assistant, but I don't really like this idea (Thr320d is installed in one building, the Home Assistant server is in another world. The network between buildings is via Wi-Fi and usually changes).

I tried the Esphome firmware with a thermostat https://devices.esphome.io/devices/Sonoff-THR320D with a moderate thermostat, but the THR320d gets very hot (apparently there are problems with the bistable relay, as written here)

Yes, I played with the tasmota thermostat module for a long time and never got it to work well at all. I then switched to the PID control module which sounds very generic (it is) but it does a superb job together with Time Proportioned Output. It does involve a custom compile though.

Thanks for the quick response! This looks like what I'm looking for. I tried several times to build tasmota firmware from source codes. But for me it always ended in failure( Perhaps you still have this custom firmware? I’m sure this will interest many (I searched for a long time on AliExpress for a thermostat that works without a cloud, but I couldn’t find it). Now I use thermostats controlled via Modbus

...........The factory firmware of the thr320d has a thermostat function. I wonder, is it on the thr320d side or does it work on the ewerlink server?

If you use one of the browser-based build tools (like TasmoCompiler), building with option customization should be pretty simple. You do not need to download source code and so on, unless you want to actually modify Tasmota.

Need a bit more information. Did you erase flash? Did it appear to flash correctly? What device are you flashing on? Which bin did you use?

There is a common issue with those devices of there being insufficient power from the FTDI to properly boot the device. Try flashing tasmota32.bin then use mains power after flashing

I'd like to come back to the GPIO26-on-forth-PIN-hack for the THR320D investigated by @Longlife4ever announced in #15856 (comment) . I have two and a half presumably basic questions:

* The modification will work with the THR316D also, as both models share the same board layout. Is this correct?

yes, i used it on one of my THR316D. i soldered the resistors with my hot air device... no Problems so far - just to note: the MQTT/JSON name of the 1st sensor data (SI-7021) changed to "SI-7021-25"

* (Because the 316 don't have power metering, a modification has a lower risk to accidently lead out mains voltage. Correct?)

there are just 2 resistors - 47 Ohm between ESP and RJ socket and the 1kOhm - think it is an Pullup which also serves against voltage spikes from outside.

* What ist the downside of the solution 1 "simple jumper on R16 to connect Pin2 directly to GPIO26" compared to the solution 2 requiring to aquire and solder two SMD-resistors?

Then your ESP32 is unprotected. You trade 3 Minutes of work for a high risk of a defective THR316 after some weeks or Months... Just think about a surge on the sensor line. R16 protects your ESP from a high current - and together with the other resistor it holds it down for a less or more defined voltage range.

Just think about why SonOff planned to place a resistor there ;-)

I'd like to hear from succesful operations. And even more from unsuccessful to learn from it.

I bought the resistors from ebay - the are really small (i measured the size by Photo and compare it to the ESP package size and the ESP datasheet). i ordered these in August:

soldering using a soldering iron did not work (to small). The second try with preparing by melding some solder to the pads, applying soldering flux to the pads and using the hot air device to meld them while holding them down worked.

I used it with a SI-7021 and a DS18x20 sensor to get air temp and humidy and pool water temperature :-) Display shows the sensors (alternating after ~5 seconds)

Got a POWR320D delivered today. For my benefit when I come to do another in a few months, the pins are: +3.3v (square), Rx, Tx, GND.

Using Tasmota Bistable relays, the template I'm using is:

Which gives just one on/off button on the web page.

As far as I can see, the only downside of this unit is that the line voltage only shows when the relay is on. Would have been nice if they'd have made that available all the time.

Have you tried SetOption21 1?

Sadly it doesn't work - voltage is reported as around 10v.

I flashed tasmota32.bin on my new POW Elite (POWR316D). Flashing was successful.

I have wired the device to power (measured 232V on my volt meter) and I'm not getting the tasmota_xxx-xxx ap I use to configure the device. No leds visible or output on the display either.

what are my steps to configure the device, or is it just borked?

Typical issue is not doing the flashing the right way. "Successful" is no indicator, as it just means that it wrote some bytes.

This is normal, just Connect the mains afther flashing then you should have ap. and apply the right template as written above You be fine. I issued with the exact same things

You did indeed flash it the wrong way, would have been better as tasmota32.factory.bin. And in general, it is better to let esptool select the flash mode instead of forcing something.

What I suggested is also default selection in the web installer. Using the web installer, did you make sure to switch to mains power for testing, and disconnect the setup for wired flashing?

I just recieved a new aditional POWR320D

flashed using esptool, webinstaller indeed left me without a ap

As updating display and web UI is not in sync, fluctuations in values picked up means that small differences can be expected.

Hello to all, yesterday i tried to flash my Pow Elite 320 in many different modes. in no mode i got a w-lan with ie "tasmotaxxxx". My question is actuell which release of tasmota is the right one. I tested with tasmota 12.x.x and with tasmota 13.3.0 as well. At least i tried the tasmota32-DE_factory.bin. No success. I used alternative the webinstaller as well as the esptool. Any idea what i should do? Thanks a lot for all the information about tasmota in the last years.

To get it on Wifi you should generally disconnect the flashing setup, and instead power it via mains. And yes, tasmota32-DE.factory.bin in current 13.3.0 version should be correct.

Thanks a lot. I will start a new session tomorrow and try. As tool I think, I will use the esptool as described earlier here. esptool.py write_flash 0x0 tasmota32.factory.bin. Thanks, I will report.

The recommendation is to use the Tasmota Web Installer, as the easiest way of making sure that the details are right.

Hi everyone, today I got a new Pow320. As described I first saved the original firmware, using esptool. Then, using the web installer i installed tasmota32.factory.bin, rel 13.3.0. Flash works ok. Now I connected to 230V and (what a surprise) there is a W-Lan opened. Installing the {"NAME":"Sonoff POWR320D","GPIO":[32,0,9313,0,9312,576,0,0,0,0,9280,0,3104,0,320,0,0,0,0,0,0,9184,9248,9216,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"FLAG":0,"BASE":1}

was without any problem. On the display of the pow as on my workstation there is all the information that I`m expected. All together it needs ca. 30min. Thanks for your support.

Hi, on my POWR320D I checked the PCB - FYI the Pin of GPIO15 looks 'not connected' monostabile relay.

Why I spend time to look for NC pins ? I want to connect an additional DS18B20 sensor (not forseen in the POW Elite). My question is, for the SW side - it is possible to use with this modification the tasmota SW and do the configuration with this magic Templates like: {"NAME":"Sonoff POWR320D","GPIO":[32,0,9313,0,9312,576,0,0,0,0,928..........}.

Can you support me i.e if I connect one (or two) DS18B20 to GPIO19 (or GPIO22) ?

Tasmota supports multiple DS18B20 on the same wires, no need for additional gpios. But yes, if you use the web UI instead of looking at the numbers in the template, you can see that the gpio config for DS18x20 has an extra dropdown to the right, allowing up to 4 such pins.
