If I copy and paste some icons, ie the package one 📦, I get an output like so:

:package: instead of the actual icon in the clipboard.

Only on a Linux machine, Ubuntu.

hmm. that's what I tried, not on linux anymore for time being

where do you get that output? I'm thinking it is because of github and would work if you view raw on the readme md file

what I do personally is

sometimes just have a pinned tab, if writing big commits
usually just have a shortcut on the desktop, as a shortcut key, or a specific editor to just open and copy paste
