NPR Stream stops after I unplug my external speakers or headphones #160

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start playing NPR
2. plug in external speakers or headphones
3. unplug external speakers or headphones

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect NPR stream to continue playing on the internal speaker. Instead it
turns off! I then have to go to NPR on the phone to start playing again, which
then sometimes means I miss something because I have to listen to the whole
"this broadcast brought to you by..." sponsor message again.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
NPR News 2.3
Android 2.3.6
Samsung SGH-T989

Hi tobiaseigen,

This is actually expected behavior, from our perspective. Testing other audio
apps on a Galaxy Nexus running 4.1, Sticher, TuneIn, Pandora, Rdio and Spotify
all follow the same pattern. Sorry this doesn't fit your needs.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the response. ok - so maybe this is a feature for android or
somewhere up the UI food chain. :) Seems to me that different people have
different expectations of what happens when you unplug the audio out jack. I
expect to start hearing audio out of the internal speakers, just like I would
expect from my home stereo. I can imagine others might not want this to happen
if they are sitting on a bus and just changing headsets or something.

Do you know where I can ask this question?

Cheers,

Tobias

@jpenn is this assessment of yours about this UI behavior still true? I see
that my other apps like BBC News and ARD (in Germany) do not turn off the audio
seconds after unplugging an external speaker or headphones from the headphone
jack. At the very least I think this should be a configurable option.
