I may not have answers to your deeper questions, but I watched this TEDx talk just last night, tried the technique and it sure seemed to work! I dropped off in about ten minutes instead of an hour or two. I think it was made for you. Enjoy:

Hey, I just want to say that what you do is already “some fine piece of work”. 🙂
There are many people out there benefiting from what you do, directly or indirectly. So It's something you can be proud of – here and now.

hey dude, it's the first time in my life that i write a 2nd comment in the same Blog, the same exact day, but somehow i related. So in short: I also live in Athens after years i spent here and there Crete, Komotini, Istanbul, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and again Athens. Why Athens? Well it's my whole ecosystem here. Living abroad i was always a stranger, i did good friends around and had some fantastic time with very few of them- so many memories, but Athens makes me feel like home and this "low level" benefits that our country provides, makes me feel more worthy of it. Whatever you do here is an achievement man. In Amsterdam you could burnout with all these meetups every day about top notch tech subjects you could eventually skip all of them. Here when something important happens it's a joy and of course you have the weather. Spend 1 summer in North Europe and you will get what i mean. What i do eventually is taking advantage of the best all worlds i live in (virtual, physical) have to provide. I enjoy my city and when i manage i take a plane and i am on the other side of the planet or Greece :) The freedom is a state of mind: you can see walls in paradise or doors it's your choice :) Be well man you are a great influence keep up!!
