Purpose of this ticket is to provide better support for Macs and where this is
not possible explain this on the download page.

A user reported the following:

I clicked on the link http://www.jpowder.org/JpowderApplet.html in your paper
in JAC and two empty windows on a page with "Demonstrating JpowderApplet" plus
some usage instructions. Both applet windows came up with an error. I clicked
for details as requested and a dialog box appeared saying

The application failed to run.
There was an error while executing the application

I clicked for more details and got:

Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22
Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM

I'm running OSX 10.6.4 with Safari 5.0.2.

Further locally the following was observed on two Mac OsX 10.5.8 machines:

1) On OsX 10.5.8 the support Java version earlier than 1.6!! Was amazingly
means that the version of Java they support is from before Dec 2006 (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_version_history). Unfortunately, at least
here at ISIS OsX 10.5.8 may be common and we currently only support Jpowder
with JRE 1.6 or higher....
2) Still using Firefox http://www.jpowder.org/JpowderApplet.html correctly
3) Jpowder web-start downloads but does not run
2) and using Safari 5.0.2 the top applet on
http://www.jpowder.org/JpowderApplet.html is displayed correctly but not the
bottom applet which is blank

Tested Jpowder on a Mac 10.6.5 and displaying the Applets and running Jpowder
worked fine. Only quirk was that when Jpowder was run got the message "Need Mac
Operation system" was is a bit entertaining given that we WERE running on a
Mac. Anyway Jpowder is probably looking for a specific version of Mac OsX, and
of course this need to be updated
