Problem: Suicidal European Wars
If allied to the United Kingdom, Prussia regularly opts to declare a suicidal war against either France or Austria within the first few decades of the game (usually relating to the Rhine Crisis or a preemptive attempt at unification). These wars usually result in Prussia getting carpet-sieged, while the UK, as war leader, remains unwilling to surrender. Depending on how the alliance system shakes out, additional conflicts can get bogged down in a similar fashion.
Resolution: Splendid Isolation
In our timeline, the UK shied away from alliances with the other great powers until the very end of the 19th Century. This should be reflected in the game with a diplomatic modifier of some sort, blocking the UK from great power alliances until a certain date is reached or tech/invention researched.
Implementation:
The idea would be to tack on a diplomatic malus similar to the prexisting penalty from "too many great power allies," but instead have it be from "splendid isolation." This malus could be engaged/released with a decision or event, with room for player input.
