I use a gmail email to sign in, and it also doesn't work. Same "unable to
connect error".

I found the solution to this problem. Edit the file
/Applications/Apollo.app/hosts
in NOTEPAD and add the following line:

65.54.131.245 msnia.login.live.com

Save and upload back to the location. Now @msn.com accounts work like a charm.

Hope this helps everyone with problems.

same for me:
<username@hotmail.com>
Unable to authenticate: Unable to connect

to access to and edit /Applications/Apollo.app/hosts
From Installer, install pure-ftpd, and ssh server, set password for root then
ftp and edit the file.
make sure you disable ssh server after!

Even after editing to 65.54.131.245 msnia.login.live.com (3 space after
65.54.131.245)

still have the error message "Unable to authenticate: Unable to connect"

I tried uninstall/reinstall same error message.
