Wii Keyboard Support lost?! #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. It would appear that I've lost all Wii Keyboard Support within
Frodo/Homebrew.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

-Nothing. No Wii Keyboard support within Frodo.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

-Wii System Menu 4.1U. Latest Homebrew Channel upgrade. V2 Wii Frodo.

Please provide any additional information below.

-Wii Keyboard still functions within Internet Channel (and programs outside of
Homebrew). I'm not convinced that this is a Frodo issue, as the Wii Keyboard
worked previously within Frodo.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

try unplugging and replugging the USB keyboard, seems to help for some (or all?)

I've had the same problem. The Keyboard is good, it worked on frodo before,
still works on pc. It seems the problem might have come about after updating to
HBC8 but I'm not sure. I've noticed the keyboard doesn't work with Dosboxwii
whereas it did before. swapping between the usb connections, exiting c64.org
and powering the wii on and off allows for a successful keyboard connection to
c64.org once every 50 times or so, but it's seemingly random, with no
indication why it connects when it does.

Great work on Frodowii by the way. Look forward to an update should you be
inclined/ if you get a chance.

update: old version frodo.10 still has keyboard support, albeit you have to
keep a key on the keyboard pressed as it's connected to the wii.

Thanks so much for this, went back to version 10 and can now use keyboard!
Albeit with the unplug->plug workaround. Also found that the same issue is
present in UAE WII, although I had to go back to version 3 to get keyboard
back. Will go log a defect with their code page.

I queried Simon and he replied thus:

'I'm aware of the problem, but I don't really work on wii stuff anymore.
Probably this is easy to fix by simply rebuilding the emulators against newer
libogc/SDLs, and basically anyone can do that. I'd be happy to give people
commit access to the repositories if they like to contribute!'

So if anyone knows a little bit about what Simon is referring to and your
interested in helping out,by all means.

Yeah I also contacted Simon and got the same reply. I started a thread on
gbatemp a while ago requesting someone to compile frodo but nobody has got it
to work so far...

I installed ios58 attempting to resolve this issue. Ios58 restores usb keyboard
compatibility to Dosbox wii (among others) but not frodo-wii.

I compiled Frodo with the last version of the libraries (libogc and SDL) and
now the keyboard works again

That's cool. I don't know how to compile, but if you have a link to your
compiled version of Frodo, I would really appreciate that! :-)

Simon gave me the administrator access rights. I uploaded a new minor release
(2.1) with the binary compiled with libogc 1.8.6 and a trivial bug fix in the
help menu of the option menu.

Ideal! Thanks for that... this will give me an excuse to dust off my wii again.

It's a shame Simon has moved on to other things as I was enjoying doing the
graphics for the GUI for frodo.

I don't suppose you could also apply the same keyboard fix to Simon's other
excellent project 'Wiiuae' as that would also make a lot of people very happy
by making the emulator more functional again?

Thanks again

I tried the new build last night but strnagely as soon as I open the gui to
select anything it allways goes to black screen and freezes? I've reverted back
to the previous release as (although it doesn't have keyboard support working)
the emu works fine.

I did a manual install and transferred only the .dol file. Works fine for me.
HBCv8 with ios58 if that makes a difference.

This build is working for me now. :) It was a similar issue I had wii wiimame
where if I have anything inserted into port 2 then the wii locks up (only seems
to happen with homebrew that beens compiled with the latest libogc and SDL?).

Now if only some kind soul culd compile Wiiuae and Fuse too...
