Using the latest 8.0.13 mysql jdbc driver and MySQL server 5.7.17 on CentOS, the following error is produced:
Caused by: com.mysql.cj.exceptions.InvalidConnectionAttributeException: The server time zone value 'CEST' is unrecognized or represents more than one time zone. You must configure either the server or JDBC driver (via the serverTimezone configuration property) to use a more specifc time zone value if you want to utilize time zone support.

I will try to find a fix for it in code, if possible. This is might be due to the change from CEST to CET though, and the MySQL server is not updated. Hard to tell what the root cause is.

It looks like this is a recurring issue: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/37719818/the-server-time-zone-value-aest-is-unrecognized-or-represents-more-than-one-ti/37720335 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26515700/mysql-jdbc-driver-5-1-33-time-zone-issue
