Checkbox for actions for files marked as original #412

Open rieje opened 7 years ago

rieje commented 7 years ago

Often times, what dupeguru thinks is the original file is marked as the duplicate while the duplicate and the duplicate is marked as original. Wanting to delete the duplicate file when it is marked as original is not possible because there is no checkbox next to it--there are only checkboxes next to what dupeguru thinks is the duplicate.

Why not have checkboxes for all files and let the user decide which is original so that they can delete files on the spot even if it is marked as original by dupeguru?

Also, how about pressing "Enter" to open the file with the default application? Very handy when doing some quick keyboard actions like pressing Enter to open the file and view its contents (to evaluate it), then using F2 to rename a file. At the moment, the "Enter" key appears to serve no purpose and it's quite tedious and inefficient switching back and forth from renaming the file to opening another file via mouse click and then back to the keyboard, etc. It's the only thing missing from dupeguru being adequately keyboard-driven, with arrow keys to navigate, "F2" to rename, and "Space" to check/uncheck boxes.

Perhaps even assigning the "Del" key to launching the menu asking the user whether he wants to delete the files to trash bin or permanently.

All of these suggestions would make dupemuru much more fluid and efficient to use with zero drawbacks.

@rieje did you try https://www.hardcoded.net/dupeguru/help/en/faq.html#the-mark-box-of-a-file-i-want-to-delete-is-disabled-what-must-i-do ?

rieje commented 7 years ago

That works, didn't realize that was an option.

Also, another feature request might be allowing user to define what which file should be the reference file by default. For example, oldest/newest file, file that is larger if not 100% match, file of a preferred directory, etc.

What you think about feature to allow user to define what which file should be the reference file by default? For example, oldest/newest file, file that is larger if not 100% match, file of a preferred directory, etc. Btw, correct link to FAQ here: https://dupeguru.voltaicideas.net/help/en/faq.html#the-mark-box-of-a-file-i-want-to-delete-is-disabled-what-must-i-do

This question is not resolved, and the answers not a solution. This is a workaround for poor design at best.

ghost commented 3 years ago

That must be why the issue is still open. What a friendly way to bump, sheesh...

TheModFather commented 3 years ago

@hsoft I'm stating fact, you're stating opinion. I didn't realize I was required to stroke egos when bumping an issue that's still unresolved almost 4 years later and has incorrect information that a contributor failed to update. I guess I'm sorry if stating the truth hurt your feelings?

ghost commented 3 years ago

This fact was redundant with the issue's status. Bumping an issue can be viewed positively. Aggressively spamming people with redundant facts is not.

I don't care about dupeGuru any more and I care even less if it doesn't solve your duplicate-scanning needs in an elegant manner. It just irks me that low quality crap like this is thrown at @arsenetar

The link is dead. However the second link given by @Baltix (https://dupeguru.voltaicideas.net/help/en/faq.html#the-mark-box-of-a-file-i-want-to-delete-is-disabled-what-must-i-do) describes well the workaround to achieve what is needed.
