bug in Nokia C5-00 #23

Open AshiVered opened 3 years ago

AshiVered commented 3 years ago

On a Nokia C5, as soon as you put the maps I downloaded (putting MBM files in the data / s60maps folder) then the device hangs, the CPU level rises to 100%! And the Ram also goes up a lot. The only solution is to format the device ...

artem78 commented 3 years ago

It`s weird, so I need to get additional information from you:

  1. What version of S60Maps do you use?
  2. Does this issue reproduce on previous versions?
  3. Did you try to drop maps cache or/and store.dat file?
AshiVered commented 3 years ago
  1. The latter
  2. Previously there is no Hebrew so I did not try
  3. The problem is immediately after putting the maps (cache) in the card, even before installing the application. And even after deleting this folder, the phone remains problematic until formatting
artem78 commented 3 years ago
  1. Install and run this debug build. It will create file s60maps_log.txt in c:/data/s60maps/ directory. Paste your log here. .
artem78 commented 3 years ago

Previously there is no Hebrew so I did not try

This is not a problem - English will be used instead.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

If I have understood you correctly, you downloaded some area in S60Maps on one phone and than insert flash card to another (C5-00)? Do cached maps work on first phone and described issue have place only on C5-00? Could you please show full content of your cache directory?

AshiVered commented 3 years ago

What I did I downloaded the maps I needed in one phone and then copied the maps to other cell phones The maps I copied work in all of them without issue

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

אכן, גם לי זה תקוע והייתי צריך לפרמט את המכשיר

artem78 commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN Please, use English (or Russian).

AshiVered commented 3 years ago

@artem78 He says that he also had this problem, and he had to perform a full reset of the device, (he wrote in Hebrew). @YOSI-COHEN תכתוב באתרים בינלאומיים באנגלית.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN What phone model do you have?

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

Nokia C5 Operating system 9.3

artem78 commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN I think your phone tries to process _palbtn directory contents. Normally it used for storing thumbnails by Image Gallery, but S60Maps uses it for prevent map tiles images be visible in Gallery. Other phones don`t have this problem and i don`t know why C5 is exception.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

From a dose I understand - because it contains thousands of images, it does not work well

By the way - Google Maps works great

Thank you very much for the application and development !!!

artem78 commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN I hope this issue won`t make troubles for you when I will add feature with offline maps from zipped archive soon.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

What does it mean to add offline photos? Why would it make problems?

artem78 commented 3 years ago

offline photos

Hmm... Where did you read this?

artem78 commented 3 years ago

What does it mean to add offline photos? Why would it make problems?

I'll try to explain.

Now downloaded maps store as many images. Each of them represents small part of the map with 256x256 pixels size. They also known as tiles.

"Offline maps" means that you can download map for selected area with PC, save it in single file (e.g., zip-archive) and then use it on the phone.

In this case using _palbtn directory with big amount of files is unnecessary and I think it will solve this issue.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

@artem78 Indeed, I believe it will solve the problem. !! Thank you for the application I would suggest translating into Hebrew, and adding more functions like route from place to place, etc.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

I would suggest translating into Hebrew

Already done.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

What does this mean? I did not see that it has Hebrew in it ???!

AshiVered commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN , see newset version. @Men770 tranlste this.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

I did not see that it has Hebrew in it ???!

When you run program Symbian OS tries to load apropriate translation in this order:

Does your phone system language is Hebrew? If not program won't use it. But you can make a trick:

i will add ability to change language from application settings later.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

Thank you very much!!!!

How about creating a single file to download from your computer?

I would suggest adding a 3D view as well

artem78 commented 3 years ago

How about creating a single file to download from your computer?

I plan to create this feature soon, but before I will to make some other tasks.

I would suggest adding a 3D view as well

Hmm... This is so hard for me.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

Maybe you did not understand me correctly I do not mean 3D but a satellite view Such image

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

And what about a route from place to place? !! Hope I do not make it difficult for you Thank you.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

I do not mean 3D but a satellite view

Oh... This is possible. I want to allow users to use custom tile services including satellite view.

And what about a route from place to place?

This is a harder task and unfortunately I don't plan to add this in the future.

artem78 commented 3 years ago

@YOSI-COHEN Could you please check one thing for me?

Does your phone has magnetic compass? If yes, check if red needle on the map indicate your real heading when you don't move?

Thanks.

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

Hello I do not have a magnetic compass

artem78 commented 3 years ago

But I read from manual that it has

YOSI-COHEN commented 3 years ago

Sorry. I did not understand what you mean If you are a recipe for GPS So he has

AshiVered commented 3 years ago

But I read from manual that it has

sorry, but both of us (YOSI-COHEN and I) not english speakers... I know English better than he does, but also I did not understand you. did you mean GPS chip? also, maybe the manual is not exact: Nokia C5 isn't a qwerty-based phone

artem78 commented 3 years ago

sorry, but both of us (YOSI-COHEN and I) not english speakers

Me too. Sorry for unclear explanation.

did you mean GPS chip?

No.
