Bluetooth API #16

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Please expose a Bluetooth API in App Inventor. This would be critical in using
App Inventor to drive mobile robots.

The ability to send raw data over the bluetooth link would be good to.
Create a serial link between bluetooth devices and send interactive AT commands
over that link.

Bluetooth support is critical to several apps I am planning.

For the general Bluetooth component, we are planning an API that would allow
connecting to a Bluetooth device, sending/receiving ASCII text, and
sending/receiving raw bytes.

Although Bluetooth support is critical in using App Inventor to drive mobile
robots, we are planning on having a separate component for the most popular
robot(s). For example, we are planning a component specifically for the Lego
Mindstorms NXT robot, with an API that provides support for most of the Lego
Mindstorms NXT Communication Protocol and Direct Commands. We are still
investigating support for leJOS.

You do realise now I will have to go out and buy a Lego Mindstom NXT robot just
to play with this component right?
I love robots.

I have not started digging too deep yet into all the available components that
the App Inventor supports, but based on this thread here a BlueTooth component
is not available yet. :( There are sssooo many ideas that are swimming in my
head and I have chosen with the rest of my team to focus on initially
developing fitness related peripheral products for the Android, but having a
Bluetooth link is critical to our visions! The alternative is to go the non-App
Inventor route, but now that I know what the App Inventor can do, it makes
going the non-App Inventor route extremely undesirable. With the BlueTooth API
in place there will be some many great applications and products that will work
with the Android phones that ALL Android phone manufacturers will be unable to
meet the demand for Android based smartphones, tablets and PCs!!! WE NEED the
BlueTooth API for Google's App Inventor as soon as practically possible!!!

Dear AI devs,
I'm teaching a tech camp in July 2011 and want to connect AI to Arduino via
bluetooth SPP. I'll be watching this thread closely, do you need any
development help? I'm offering. Contact me, holla2040@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Craig

Can hardly wait till this comes out.
I just bought a bluetooth module for my arduino.
1st thing i plan to do is make an AI app that talks over bluetooth to my
arudino and make it do cool things like flash led's

@davide.tosatti
Given it took about a month to get from started to testing, I'd give them
another month to have the major bugs hammered out. Might come out sooner, but
it's not like it's the only thing they're working on.

Just an FYI, for all you waiting for this API to connect to arduino's, in the
meantime there is always Amarino.
