This is more of a comment than a question.
For years I have used "secrets" with the mac Grab utility to save screenshots
in .png format. It did not seem to have any effect on the built-in scrrenshot
utility (cmd-shift-4, etc). which always used .tiff.
Suddenly this changed; Grab started saving pictures as .tiff.
I can;be sure of the next sequence, but I think I used Onyx (one of many
blacktree secrets competitors) to try and change the format back to .png. It
didn't help even though I noticed that the mac "defaults read" show png.
I then went to blacktree secrets and changed the screencapture type to PNG
(secrets uses upper case).
To my amazement, the system cmd-shift-4 actions now use .png which they never
did before and which I had read somewhee was impossible.
Grab is still using tiff, though, even though I had successfully changed to
.png before.
