MiddleClick very sensitive #11

I recently moved to a newer Macbook with a larger touchpad. I have found that MiddleClick seems to be very senstive when it comes to palm rejection. When even the slightest bit of my palm is on the trackpad, it seems to ignore the middle click "gesture". Also when I'm scrolling and my palm is on the trackpad just slightly, it will register it as a middleclick and have that strange scroll icon sometimes.

I'd say it's not an "issue" with the software... if the trackpad registers your palm touching the trackpad when you don't intend it to be registered, MiddleClick can't be expected to magically behave in the correct way.

The issue is with the trackpad being too large. I have a few strips of bike handle padding tape over the left & right edges of the trackpad. Nobody needs such a ridiculously large trackpad, on which a natural posture of the hand may register as a click.

So I suggest that the issue be closed.

As I said in #5, Apple did it this way for a reason. Honestly, I just don't have time right now. IB DP, grade 11 ;)

Btw, I find it surprising that people didn't mention all of these issues in the original MiddleClick.

In my experience it seems to be that no click is registered, a middleclick is registered sometimes when it shouldn't, so palm rejection does seem to work as it should but imo Middleclick is not. Though I have installed Middleclick from the day I received this new Macbook so I'm unsure whether the problem is with Middleclick or with Apple.

I agree that the touchpad is too large. Though I don't plan on ducktaping my laptop to fix it. I'll just get a Linux laptop if I can.

I never had this problem in the past because I was on a late 2013 Macbook Pro, the OG Macbook Pro. I wish we could all go back to that generation.

Maybe this is the reason of macOS not having built-in functionality to MiddleClick...

Bugs me the most when in terminal and whatever that is in your clipboard will get pasted... 🤪🤦‍♂️

I had to change it to 3 finger click because of this.. I'm guessing this happens because the app uses raw trackpad input whereas apple's gestures are handled after debounce/filtering?

If I change the setting to "three finger click" I find that I'm unable to reliably trigger it. I suppose if I use it that way for while I might learn; it's got to be better than having the cursor constantly jumping to random parts of the file you're editing.

p.s. as much as I like my "OG" late-2013 MBP, I don't like the fan noise... think I'll be sticking with the new one, even if a smaller trackpad might make sense.

Just realised that MiddleClick doesn't have palm rejection at all, unlike built-in gestures.
