I submitted a bug earlier about a discrepancy between the numbers on the side-bar and the numbers overlaid on the image when in the details tab. I figured out what's going on. The numbers on the image refer to the order of the content on the "create content" sidebar when editing the story. So, let's say you have 3 items on the list in this order: object, detail, detail. The first detail will be assigned #2 on the image, because it's the second one in the sequence. If the items are in this order: detail, object, detail, then the first detail is correctly numbered (#1), but the second detail is given #3 on the image. If the object gets moved to the bottom, then the details are numbered correctly on the image in the details tab.
Not sure if there are any implications to moving the object to the end of the sequence on that sidebar...
