Question about wiring the transmitter up #2

Hi,

I've been trying to hook up a similar RF transmitter up to an Arduino (or Particle Core, to be more exact), but have so far been unsuccessful in controlling my Nexa switches. I noticed that you have a resistor between the ground and data wires in your schematic – could you explain what its purpose is? I'm still trying to figure out where my problem lies, and am trying to rule out the possibility that my transmitter is wired incorrectly.

The resistor only sets the transmitter to off state while my Raspberry pi is booting. If you use arduino, you don't need the resistor at all.
