Wiggle animation for flag relocation #349

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

In Rabbit, when a "dead" flag is about to be returned to a spawn point, have it
do a little wiggle animation to foreshadow its position change. Perhaps have it
start wiggling three seconds prior to timer expiration. Basically, give players
a little warning that the flag is about to move.

I think a flag return timer display above the flag would be better.

That could work. I was going off the style of the asteroid spawn indicator,
which didn't display a countdown, but did show an image of a tiny asteroid
appearing seconds before producing the actual asteroid. I guess I just like a
little bit of surprise in Bitfighter! ;)

If flag return time was ever implemented in other gametypes besides Rabbit, a
wiggle would be neat looking.
In Rabbit, the flag is usually already moving so fast between ships dropping it
that I don't think a wiggle would be very noticeable.

Cool idea though.

If a flag was moving fast enough between ships to not have players notice its
wiggle animation, then the return timer wouldn't kick in anyway. Even with a
1-second timer, I doubt there'd be enough particles moving around to mask a
wiggle. And even if there were, this feature isn't intended for 1-second
timers. It is intended for timers of some seconds more in which there's a far
greater mystery as to when the timer may expire. I suspect most maps employ a
slightly longer return timer anyway.

I do agree though, that given its use being limited to only one game mode, then
it ought to be considered relatively low priority.

What about blinking instead of wiggling?

I was thinking blinking or sinusoidally flashing, as well.

That would be neat too! Maybe a slow blinking that speeds up when it's about to
disappear?

I like blink as well.
