dvdnav is not used when a DVD-with-menus is inserted #335

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. insert dvd with menus ("Elepants Dream" in my tests)
2. Gnome recommends gnome-mplayer for playback, accept it to open the film
3. film loops at the credits because dvdnav was not called by default, even
though the DVD menu button is present; the button does not open the menu

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
menu via dvdnav should be displayed, but instead the credits loop

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
mplayer-1.0-0.111.20091029svn.fc12.i686
gnome-mplayer-0.9.8-1.fc12.i686
gecko-mediaplayer-0.9.8-2.fc12.i686
libdvdnav-4.1.4-0.1.svn1184.fc12.i686
Fedora 12, up to date

Please provide any additional information below.
Closing the movie and calling "gnome-mplayer dvdnav://" on the command line
behaves as expected.
Also, I see no adverse effects if I open a non-menu'd dvd with this command
line option so why not make it a default, add in a preference setting or
make some sort of configuration file option to enable it as a user
preference? I realize dvdnav is not fully supported but I feel it works
well enough that it is better than nothing.

Thanks!

please post a log when "File -> Disc > Open DVD with Menus is chosen"

Your system is probably using the hardward device name or dvd:// on the command
line
which is either a local config or packaging issue. dvdnav:// is not well
supported on
all systems so we have to default to dvd:// when media is opened by device name.

dvdnav should be the preferred dvd player in gnome-mplayer > 1.0.3
